Grab each belt with a pair of tweezers and position them on the driveshaft.

All the belts should be in the same orientation, from the front of the axle drum to the righthand side of the drive shaft, around it to the rear of the axle drum.

REBUILDING THE MOTOR

Begin disassembling the motor by removing the brush springs and brushes.

Remove the brush holder assembly.

Remove the remaining screw and pull the end plates off and remove the armature. Keep the pole pieces on the magnet and mark it so it can be reinstalled in the same magnetic orientation.

Remove any washers from the armature.

Carefully clean the armature. Polish the commutator with 1200 grit sandpaper and clean the air gaps between the contact plates.

Clean the end plates and magnet assembly, install any washers removed from the armature and reassemble these pieces. Add a drop of oil to each motor bearing and rotate the armature by hand to insure it spins freely.

Clean and reinstall the brush holder assembly.

Clean the brushes and brush springs. Install one of the brushes, then it's spring by sliding it onto the larger post, holding the end of the spring on the brush and then lifting the other end of the spring onto it's post. Install the 2nd brush in the same manor. Test run the motor

Install the motor in the frame and connect the driveshafts.

Reconnect the wires to the trucks, Position them so they do not interfere with the belts or contact the frame when the trucks are rotated side to side. Note, The wires should both be on the left side of the locomotive to collect current from the left rail through each truck. The current returns to the right rail through the frame to each truck. Test run the locomotive.

The end.
